Name: LJA Summer 2025 K-8 Scholastic Open  
Desc: The tournament is open to all students in grades K-8 during the most recent school year (2024-25). The event will take place at Le Jardin Academy in Kailua. The tournament will begin at 9am and last until the final round is completed (~4-5pm), with the award ceremony to follow immediately after. Players must be present to check in between 8-8:45am.

Other details:

• Upon entering the LJA campus, make an immediate RIGHT turn and follow the main road to the drop off area. Parking is available in any marked spaces along the main road or the parking lots past the tennis courts.
• The tournament will be held at the Middle/Lower School campus in the Wang Auditorium.
• Supervision: On-site supervision by a coach, parent or designated guardian is required for all players age 13 and under.
• Sections: Open format, where all players will compete in one section, with prizes awarded by grade section: K-2, 3-5, 6-8.
• Rounds: 5 rounds using the Swiss Pairing System (non-elimination).
• Time Control: G/30+5, meaning each player begins with 30 minutes on their clock and receives an additional 5-seconds after making each of their moves (clocks and chess sets will be provided at the event).
• Ratings: This is a NON-RATED tournament; however, USCF ratings (where available) will be used to determine pairings.

Schedule:

• 8:00am - 8:45am: Check in
• 8:45am: Mandatory players meeting
• 9:00am: Round 1 start
• Timing of rounds 2-5 and lunch break will be determined on the day of, based on the speed of play.

Entry Fee:

• $10 per player, until 11:59pm on Wednesday, July 23rd.
• $20 per player thereafter (including on-site).
